Online Games Research Study

The Study :

This study is a doctoral research project undertaken by Lisa Galarneau, a Ph.D candidate in the Department of Screen and Media Studies at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand. The study is looking specifically at social behaviour related to online video and computer games. In particular, it explores through quantitative and qualitative means how players achieve mastery of the game(s) through their interactions with one another.

The full study involves a number of phases over a period of one year, including in-game observation, a survey, and follow-up in the form of interviews, additional surveys and virtual and/or physical observation. The researcher will be traveling in the U.S., Europe and Australasia to meet and interview gamers in person, observe gameplay in real life, and better understand the cross-cultural context of international video and computer game play.

The survey portion of the study will provide empirical evidence about the attitudes and habits of online gamers. We hope to receive as many responses as possible from as many corners of the globe as possible. (our apologies, at this time the survey is only available in English).

If you are interested in completing the initial survey, please click here... At the end of the survey, you will be offered the opportunity to participate more fully in the study by indicating in which areas you might be willing to accommodate the research.

Your participation is very much appreciated. Please remember that there are no right or wrong answers, I am just interested in the views and opinions you have about gaming and your game experience.
